From Casinos to Coffee -The Story of Beebs Beans

I spent twenty years working in casinos. I never planned to end up roasting coffee in a small coastal town.  I didn’t plan this. Timing did.

In 2019, I was living in Las Vegas when a call from Florida changed everything. My aunt was dying. She had no children, no husband — and she left her estate to my brother and me. Not long after, the world shut down. Casinos closed. “Three weeks” became five months.

During that pause, life slowed down. I found myself in Florida, helping build a small fresh-pasta business. When the casinos finally called me back, I realized something unexpected — after twenty years, I wasn’t ready to return.

I walked away without a plan, just a feeling that I needed to see where this new path led.

After the pasta business ran its course, I picked up steady work dealing poker and kept my life simple. Then, almost casually, someone at a farmers market asked if I’d ever consider buying her small coffee business.  Months later, she handed it to me for $2,500.

I began roasting coffee myself — small batches, early mornings, long days at the markets. People responded. I kept going.

When I could no longer roast at home, I went looking for a place to continue. One afternoon in Sebastian, I noticed a small coffee shop I’d once visited — dark and empty. I asked a man watering the garden what had happened.

“They’re looking for another coffee person,” he said.

That’s how Beebs Beans began — not as a plan, but as a series of moments that lined up just when they needed to.
